About the Artwork

Weeping Woman, 1985.
Acrylic, cowrie shells, buttons, glass beads, rick rack ribbons stitched on padded canvas.

Weeping Woman was painted by Pacita Abad following her stay in Papua New Guinea. While traveling among the highland villages, she stopped at an outdoor market, where she saw a woman crying after being beaten by her husband. Pacita was upset and outraged by the violence against women that is too often ignored by society.

Note: the Art Print includes the rough and uneven edges of the original fabric artwork
